Winter 2011 Fashion Trends

Fashion trends have taken a drastic wintry turn recently and with the sudden drop in temperatures it’s only trivial that we spend extra care on keeping cosy during the winter months, as well as looking glammed up to the nines. Here are our top trends and fashion fixes to keep you looking smoking hot during the big freeze.

Tights and Leggings
Tights are a must have for this time of year and the thicker the better! Opt for some high- deniers and try braving some coloured and patterned pieces to brighten up your wardrobe, as well as these white, snow laden months!

Leggings have been a massive hit, if not the biggest fashion staple of 2010, with them gracing designer lines, high street stores and catwalks worldwide, and they’re proving harder to budge than that morning frost on your windscreen. Although many may argue that the legging trend has well and truly over stayed its welcome- it’s back with a vengeance! We love coloured and patterned leggings! Try teaming some leopard print leggings with killer heels and a motif shirt for a rocky edge.

Faux Fur
Faux fur originally became a wardrobe staple within the warmer seasons of 2010 amongst celebrities such as Pixie Lott, but now that the icy, minus degrees have graced us with their presence, it makes a lot more sense that we be wearing them now. Not only does faux fur keep us warm and snug, it looks amazing too! Try combining simple classic pieces with an over sized faux fur jacket to create a focal point for your outfit, adding some military boots for day or clogs for the evening.

Alternatively, if you’re not confident braving the extremities of faux fur fashion, you could try subtle fur detail on accessories, bags and shoes.

Oversized Cardigans
It’s a staple that reappears every single winter, and no wonder: it’s the easiest, most versatile way of keeping warm and on trend during winter. Try wearing thick, crocheted cardigans (like the type your Grandma used to knit) with skinny jeans or thick tights.

Grandad and Christmas Jumpers
The appropriately named ‘Grandad’ or ‘Christmas Jumper’ is definitely a hit this year, and perfect for the Noelle season if you’re planning on spreading a little Christmas spirit. With their quirky vintage-esque quality, these jumpers are a brilliant follow up to the previous geek chic fashions that we have been seeing a lot of recently. Team with some skinny jeans, pumps and a nice pair of nerd rims to top it off.

Military Boots

Military boots are a perfect way to rock up a feminine outfit as well as keep your tootsies dry this season. Try teaming them with skinny jeans or leggings and a fur coat.
